The sunset’s murky on the hills
Miasma lingers on our breaths
We’ve still got lots of time to kill
From now until we meet our deaths

And everything that we create
Never quite ends up as we hope
Be it coincidence or fate,
We’re pushing boulders up a slope

When we look back upon our lives
As we lay dying in our beds
Will there be meaning to derive,
Or was it all just in our heads?

Let me write something that will last
Two simple sentences that rhyme—
Some words besides my epitaph—
That might not flunk the test of time

What am I doing standing here,
Singing these sad words set to chords?
They may be heartfelt and sincere,
But we’ve all heard this shit before
